Get informed and learn more about our program below. Our program aims to provide comprehensive training and support for aspiring electricians. Here, we answer some of the most common questions about our Electrical Apprenticeship Program to help you make an informed decision.

What is your first step?

Your first step would be to find a job with a participating contractor.  You can not be enrolled in classes until you have enployment with a participating contractor.

 

When you have found employment, you may submit an application to me through the website.  Also email me and let me know who you are working for.

How long have we been around?

The Mid Florida Electrical Apprenticeship Program was  established in 1979.   

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a structured training program that combines hands-on experience with classroom education. Participants work under skilled professionals while gaining theoretical knowledge about electrical systems, safety practices, and techniques essential for real-world applications.

Who can enroll in the program?

  • Experience not necessary

  • You must be 18 years of age or older

  • You must have a Florida Drivers License or Florida issued ID

  • You must be a High School graduate or have a GED

  • Must be physically able to perform the duties of the trade.

  • A backgrouind in Math (Algebra and Geomentry) and Science is strongly recommended, but not required.

What contractors participate in our Program?

We currently have 23 local contractors who participate in our program.​  Please see  under the menu tab or click the button below.

How long is the program?

It is a 4 year program. One year of our program years is a Fall, Spring and Summer Semester.

Please note we only start school once a year in August.

How does the program work?

You work for a particiapting contractor 40 hours a week and get paid. You go to school 2 nights a week (Monday and Wednesday nights) for the fall and spring semesters.  You are enrolled in an OJT class all year round.

How do you apply for the program?

Please contact the Mid Florida Electrical Apprenticeship office at 386-788-2821.  Please note that you're first step is finding a job with a participating contractor.

 

The application packet is accessable on the apply now page on this website and also by clicking the apply now button on the home page.   We also have a new online application on the apply now.

Please fill out the application and include a copy of your Florida Drivers License, a copy of your Social Security Card and a official copy of your High School Transcripts or GED score report.

 

We now have a locked drop box at our building at 2407 Bellevue Ave, Ext, Daytona Beach.

 

If you drop your commpleted application and supporting paperwork off please email or text the apprenticeship office and it will be picked up.

When can I start?

We only start school once a year in August, but we accept applications all year.

 

You can start working for a contractor before attending school.

 

Please note you MUST be working for a participating contractor to attend school.

Employment?

We do not place you in a job, you need to find a job with one of our 22 participating contractors  A list of contractors can be found under the participating contractors page on this website.

Please note that you must be working for a participating contractor in order to get a seat in the class.

 

 

Tip: Go in person and fill out applications at contractors offices. Do not call.

What is the cost of the program?

The contractor you work for sponsors you to attend classes. You only pay $75.00 per semester for books. You also pay a one time registration fee to Daytona State College of $35.00 to be registered. If you have attended DSC previously, this fee is not charged again.

What tools will I need?

This list may vary from  contractor to contractor.  Please inquire with the participating contractor you are employed by.

What are the current wages?

The current wages are as follows:

  • 1st year -    $15.50/hour

  • 2nd year -  $17.00/hour

  • 3rd year -   $18.50/hour

  • 4th year -   $20.00/hour

Can you tell me the difference between the Non-Union and Union programs?

No I can only give you information regarding our program.
